What You Need

  • Plastic sea animals (or laminated picture cards)
  • Small coloured baskets or containers
  • Colour labels (optional)

How to Do It as an Educator

  1. Hide sea animals around the classroom or outdoor area.
  2. Invite children to search for the animals.
  3. Ask children to identify each animal’s colour.
  4. Place each animal into the matching coloured basket.
  5. Count how many animals were collected in each colour.

Extend the Activity

  • Sort animals by size.
  • Sort by animal type.
  • Introduce beginning sounds (S for Shark, F for Fish).
  • Use tweezers to pick up smaller animals.
